Seeing him in the gym, he is always willing to lend his wealth of knowledge to anybody who asks. Always with a positive attitude he can brighten any person’s day. Samir’s style of teaching is so effective that I went from student to project partner almost overnight. I completely changed my own daily approach to my personal safety; in fact my personal awareness changed completely. Like most women I was living in the white zone of denial. I no longer take my safety for granted as I am aware of what to look for, what to do and what not to do and above all to trust my instincts at all times. I have had the great honor of knowing Samir for nearly 5 years as a fellow athlete, advocate and instructor of martial arts. As athletes, Samir and I both represented Canada at the 2007 World Muay Thai Federation’s Pro-Am Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Samir demonstrated true Warrior Spirit and superior Muay Thai technique, securing a Bronze Medal despite a debilitating foot injury that, in my opinion, was the only reason that he did not win Gold. As advocates, Samir and I where both active participants in the Canadian Amateur Muay Thai Association of Ontario (CAMTAO) for approximately 3-4 years. During that time, Samir provided valuable input on the direction of the organization and was often looked to for counsel when the organization faced challenging times. Samir proved dedicated to the promotion of Muay Thai in Ontario and Canada. As instructors, Samir and I have both operated our own training centers and our athletes have competed against each other. Samir’s athletes are TOP NOTCH. They are well trained, but come out confident and empowered. He is clearly an elite trainer in all regards. His students respect him. He and his team embody PEACE AND LOVE…STRENGTH AND HONOR -character traits of true martial artists – that are unfortunately hard to come by these days. Samir is a warrior, a gentleman and a force to reckon with. I am grateful to know him and will always be a fan of the Sandman! March 12, 2010.
